Lewentz: 1.2 million euros for the renovation of the Palatinate Academy

Home secretary Roger Lewentz has given the Palatinate district association a grant of 1.2 million euros from the 2021 investment pool. The funding is intended to finance fundamental conversion work on the Palatinate Academy building in Lambrecht (Bad Dürkheim district).

"The Pfalzakademie has been doing very good work in the field of political, cultural and professional adult education in Rhineland-Palatinate for decades. With the planned conversion, the Pfalzakademie wants to further expand its portfolio and become a barrier-free and environmentally conscious 'biosphere academy' with new interactive environmental workshops," said Minister Lewentz.

In addition to the Palatinate Academy, the Palatinate District Association is also responsible for the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Palatinate Forest. The cooperation between the Palatinate Academy and the biosphere reserve is to be further strengthened. For this reason, work and handicraft rooms for manual and creative work as well as a water laboratory for experimentation and analysis are to be created in the Pfalzakademie. In addition, there will be a stronger focus on the topics of environment and sustainability in the future.

The funds from the investment fund have been used for many years to support the construction and renovation of town halls, administration buildings, village community centers, multi-purpose halls or community areas. "The investment expenditures triggered by the funding are of great importance for medium-sized businesses and the trades," said the minister.

For the year 2021, the investment stock has an approval framework of 53 million euros. "I am pleased that in 2021 we will be able to continue the high level of funding of the past few years. With the investment stock, we make funds available where other funding instruments are not effective, but the individual projects can strengthen the municipal infrastructure in the long term," emphasized Lewentz.

Pfalzakademie gets a tower

There is a lot of construction work to be done at the Palatinate Academy in Lambrecht this year. This is announced by the district association as the responsible body for the facility.

Two seminar rooms in the educational center are to be converted into an environmental workshop and a water workshop, a herb kitchen will be set up foyer and the foyer will also be renovated. The ceiling is closed for fire protection reasons and equipped with dimmable LED light islands.

Finally, the building will have an attractive tower, designed as a filigree steel construction with wooden slats. This has a double function: it offers a viewing platform and at the same time secures the second escape route. According to a press release from the district association, it can also be an eye-catcher thanks to environmentally friendly lighting.

Mainly aimed at students
Environmental workshop, water laboratory and herbal kitchen should be the basis for a yet to be established biosphere reserve academy, which is aimed primarily at schoolchildren. The goal is that “every pupil spends a week dealing with the Palatinate Forest-Northern Vosges biosphere reserve at least once in his or her school career,” said district council chairman Theo Wieder.

Overall, the investments for the Palatinate Academy are estimated at 2.2 million euros, which are to be built this year and next. The building project is one of 70 planned for the district association this year.

The operation of the Pfalzakademie is currently running exclusively online, informed Regina Reiser, press spokeswoman for the district association in Kaiserslautern. The facility has 13 employees, the Palatinate Forest biosphere reserve, whose office is also in Lambrecht, has 14 and the Regioakademie, which specializes in further training in tourism, has two.

Zeil 86, Frankfurt am Mainz

The property is located in the pedestrian zone in downtown Frankfurt. On the plot to be planned at Zeil 86 was a post-war building with 7 upper floors and a basement, which was used as a commercial building and was demolished. The new building includes a shop unit, which extends over 3 floors from the ground floor to the 2nd floor and a 3rd floor as a residential unit. An internal elevator, separate from the stairwell, connects the floors of the shop unit, but also serves to access the 3rd floor.

The representative south side of the building facing the heavily frequented Zeil shopping street has a mullion and transom façade with glass surfaces and closed panels, which are structured with differently grouped vertical slats. The entrance to the stairwell is set back over two floors and is paneled. In the rear areas, which are not surrounded by firewalls, the building has a plain plaster facade.

Chimney on Heiligkreuz-Areal in Mainz is blown up

MAINZ - The almost 60 meter high chimney of the previous heating plant on the former IBM site will be blown up at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 22nd. This is announced by the Mainzer Stadtwerke. The Heiligkreuz district is therefore largely cordoned off around the blast site.

The Mainzer Stadtwerke, which is developing this part of the new residential quarter together with the city, does not anticipate any disruption to residents or traffic on Hechtsheimer Strasse. The blast may be heard in the neighborhood.

In the next few years, the city of Mainz, together with the Mainzer Stadtwerke AG and the two private partners, Ten Brinke Projektentwicklung and the Richter Group, will realize around 2,000 new apartments as well as attractive office and commercial spaces in the new Heiligkreuz district. One focus is on affordable rental apartments, including 25 percent publicly subsidized housing, as well as offers for senior citizens and building communities.
